CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide

We stock and install CertainTeed-compatible ridge vent systems throughout Sacramento, with most installations running $450 to $950 including materials, labor, and a written guarantee. Same-week scheduling is standard for us, and we carry the common CertainTeed profiles on the truck so we’re not sending you back to the supply house for a second trip. Most Sacramento homeowners find us because they’ve spotted cracked plastic along the ridge line, noticed shingle granules piling up in gutters directly below the vent, or felt attic heat that just won’t quit. The vent itself is simple; the failure happens when UV exposure and valley heat make the plastic brittle, or when the original installer used off-brand fasteners that have since backed out.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

The two CertainTeed ridge vent lines we work with most in Sacramento are the Filtered Ridge Vent (the older workhorse, with an external baffle and a fabric filter) and the ShingleVent II (a lower-profile design with an internal weather filter). Both install along the peak of the roof, but the ShingleVent II sits flatter, which matters if you’ve got a lower-pitch roof that catches a lot of afternoon sun. The compatibility gotcha we see most often: CertainTeed’s vent profiles are designed to pair with specific shingle thicknesses. If someone installed architectural shingles over a vent spec’d for three-tab, the shingle overhang doesn’t lay right and water finds a path in. Before quoting, we check the vent width against the shingle exposure. We can match OEM CertainTeed parts, but we’ll also tell you if a quality aftermarket equivalent from our GAF or Owens Corning stock saves you money without sacrificing airflow. For most CertainTeed-branded homes, we recommend staying with the genuine article so the vent profile matches the roof’s original look.

Signs Your CertainTeed Ridge Vent Installation Is Failing

  • Cracked or crumbling vent plastic along the ridge. Sacramento’s summer sun bakes ridge vents to the point where the plastic gets chalky and then cracks. Once water has an entry point, the decking beneath gets soft. We find this pattern constantly on 15-to-20-year-old roofs in Elmhurst and Land Park.
  • Attic temperature spikes in summer. A ridge vent that’s clogged with dust, blocked by nesting material, or simply under-sized lets heat collect. If your upstairs rooms are suddenly ten degrees hotter than last August, the vent often isn’t moving air anymore.
  • Granules piling up in gutters directly below the ridge line. That grit usually means shingles are wearing faster near the vent, often because moisture is sitting against them at the peak. The vent isn’t the direct cause, but it’s the early warning sign.
  • Musty smell or dark streaks on attic sheathing near the peak. That’s condensation or active moisture. A ridge vent with a degraded filter lets wind-driven rain through, and then the underside of the roof deck gets damp every time a storm blows through.
  • Visible gaps where the vent meets the shingles. Expansion and contraction from Sacramento’s hot days and cool nights can pull fasteners loose over time. Once the vent lifts, it makes noise in the wind and starts catching debris.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Sacramento homes, a full CertainTeed ridge vent replacement lands between $450 and $950 installed. The range depends on roof length, whether we need to replace any rotted decking at the peak, and whether you’ve got a single ridge line or multiple peaks (common on the dormered craftsman-era houses near McKinley Park). That price includes removing the old vent and fasteners, installing the new vent with proper end caps, sealing the edges, and hauling everything away. We also inspect the surrounding shingles and underlayment while the peak is open. Every job gets a written guarantee before we leave, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise means if that guarantee is triggered, we come back without charging you again.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the visual condition yourself from a ladder: look for cracks, gaps, and loose sections. You can also look in the attic on a bright afternoon to see if daylight is coming through where it shouldn’t. What we don’t recommend is pulling up sections of ridge vent to “peek” at the decking below. Ridge vent shares the peak with the highest-stress area of the roof, and once you break the seal between vent, shingle, and underlayment, the weather exposure changes. Greg Holloway has walked enough Sacramento roofs to know when a ridge vent is still holding versus when it’s about to go; he walks every job himself before pricing anything. If you’re unsure, call us at (279) 348-3049 and we’ll come take a look. We tell you the price before we touch your roof – every time, no exceptions.
